The network of the country's largest mobile operator Grameenphone has returned to normal after the fiber optic cable was cut for more than two hours. Telecom regulator BTRC has sought an explanation from Grameenphone as a large number of customers suffered during the blackout between 12:15 and 02:00 on Thursday.

After this, Grameenphone told the media that Grameenphone's fiber optic cable was severed during road renovation work in Dhaka, Tangail, Sirajganj and Gazipur areas. That's why some customers of Grameenphone are having trouble getting network during calls and internet usage today. However, after the disruption, Grameenphone was able to quickly restore the network.

Abul Kashem Mohiuddin Al-Amin, Head of Network Services of the company, said, “Today's incident was an accident and the reason behind it was beyond our control. Our dedicated staff restored connectivity as quickly as possible and were able to meet the increasing traffic demands on the network.”

Grameenphone Chief Marketing Officer Sajjad Haseeb said, “We are sincerely sorry for the temporary inconvenience caused by multiple fiber cable disconnections and network disruption. Grameenphone is the most popular telecom brand in the country and more than half of the people in the country trust us to fulfill their connectivity and digital life needs. Today our dedicated team defies all odds and completes a complex task in the fastest possible time. We consider it a top priority to ensure that customers get the best experience possible. We are grateful to our customers and well-wishers for placing their trust in Grameenphone.”

Regarding this, Grameenphone Head of Communications Khairul Bashar said, "During the road development work in Dhaka, Gazipur, Tangail and Sirajganj, some customers are facing problems in getting connection due to the fiber cable being disconnected. However, the situation has been brought under control and all issues have been resolved."

It is to be noted that during similar incidents caused by man-made and natural causes, Grameenphone restored the network as quickly as possible to ensure uninterrupted service to its 79.1 million customers, which is a reflection of the company's commitment to customer service.
